Weblog for December '01
December 9, 2001
After a long hiatus ...
This first entry in December comes rather late in the month. I've been holding my breath since late November to see whether my online shopping was foolish and whether I was going to be taken by the merchant with whom I'd chosen to do business. On November 16th, after watching prices for a long time, I found the Canon Powershot G2 for $619.00 at Broadway Photo. That price caused me to pull the trigger and go ahead and order the camera I'd decided I wanted to get. The web site indicated that it would be from 24 to 72 hours before my order would be processed. I got an email on 11/19/01 asking that I call the company's 800 number about my order. When I made that call, I realized that this was their opportunity to do some "upselling." I did buy an additional battery for the camera (and probably paid more than I should have), but that was all that I ordered. Then I waited ... and waited ... and waited.
After what seemed like enough waiting, I called the company's 800 number again to tell them that I wanted a tracking number or I wanted to cancel my order. To my surprise, they gave me a tracking number and I looked it up at the UPS site. Sure enough the package had been shipped the day before, November 28th. My credit card was charged on 11/19/01, so they had the use of my money from the 19th until the 28th before they shipped me a product.
Having the UPS tracking number enabled me to know that the camera was on its way, but I still didn't know whether it would be a working camera or not. I kept close watch on the movement of my order, and it arrived on 12/03/01. To my surprise it seems to be new, in good shape and the product I was expecting. I charged the battery that night and on 12/04/01, I began taking pictures with it. I have a lot to learn, but initial impressions are quite positive.
I've created a Photo Album on the Web for displaying those photos that I'd like to share with others. Be advised that this web page displays best if you have a fast connection since it displays a number of graphic files.
